RAG is a way of keeping our AI on a short leash. Instead of letting it roam the open internet, we give it a carefully packed suitcase full of approved stories, words, and ideas. It can only draw from what we put inside.
Here’s how that works:
The foundation model (like ChatGPT) already knows how to write and speak beautifully. But when it comes to what it talks about, we decide. We feed it only documents that we’ve created — ones filled with gentle adventures, dreams, and bedtime wonder. So when you ask for a story, it searches through our private library, not the internet, to craft something new every time.
1. Retrieve – When you ask a question, the AI first looks in our secure story library for the most relevant pages or snippets.
2. Augment – It adds those snippets to your question, giving the model rich, context-safe material to work with.
3. Generate – Using that combination, it creates an answer or story that’s accurate, on-topic, and child-safe.
In short: RAG lets us keep the creativity of AI while keeping control over what it knows.
These illustrations? Think of them as friendly suggestions. We intentionally leave room for interpretation because the characters in Willow & Star should belong to your child's inner world, not ours.
